A Little About Mrs. Basciano....

Although originally from the Northeast Ohio area, I have called the Evans area home for the past 24 years! I graduated from the University of South Carolina-Aiken with a B.S. in Biology in 2002 and earned my M.Ed. (2007) and Ed.S. (2011) degrees from Augusta State University. I have taught in Aiken, Richmond, and Columbia counties. The 2023-2024 school year will be my 21st year teaching and my 7th year at Lakeside High School. Needless to say, I am beyond thrilled to be a Panther! I am gifted certified in mathematics for grades 4-12 and in science & social studies for grades 4-8.  I have also completed the Level-Up Challenge to become an EdTECH Innovator and currently serve as the Central East Representative for the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

My husband's name is Peter. He is currently serving as the Interim Associate Dean of the Hull College of Business at Augusta University. We have two adorable children: a 14-year-old son named Alexander and a 10 1/2-year-old daughter named Ashton. We also have two beautiful Labrador Retrievers: a sweet 5-year-old 115+ lb-boy named Apollo and a pretty 2 1/2-year-old 90+ lb-girl named Artemis.

My favorite football teams are the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers! Outside of teaching high school, I also hold a real estate salesperson license (inactive status) and real estate instructor license.

My Instructional Philosophy

I expect my students to develop reasoning skills that will allow them to evaluate information outside of its given context, and to discover how very much society depends on their achievement. Therefore, rising above instructing everyday content knowledge, I engage my students in activities and projects that build upon their self-esteem and unique knowledge set. Accordingly, I attempt to begin each lesson with an intriguing activity, hoping to spark my students’ interests. After thorough discussion of the topic, the students typically engage in a second activity used to synthesize their understanding of the topic. Consequently, my overall goal is to teach in a manner that produces students who will be productive members of society far beyond their adolescent schooldays.
